location change: kenya, africa.

I’m in Africa! As of Tuesday night, I officially live in Africa. Wow. God is so faithful. This is truly the biggest dream come true.

I am learning something new everyday. Like, karibu, which means welcome in Swahili. I have been practicing my bartering skills at the local markets, learning how to drive on the right side of the road (the amount of times I turn on my windshield wipers instead of my turn signal is truly remarkable), using mobile money, and learning new cultural norms. I have also been working on furnishing my new room, trying new foods (ugali & mandazi- look em up!), and meeting so many amazing people.

I have been able to see the school campus, meet the staff, and see my classroom. Wow, this campus is beautiful, see below!

These new few weeks are teacher orientation which has consisted of full, but wonderful days. Wherever we go, it is mandatory to wear masks in Kenya, even in your cars and upon entry of every store, your temperature is checked. This is definitely a new reality, but yet, I feel so blessed not to have undergone a government quarantine period. Just as many have prayed, God truly has gone before me and prepared the way.

Thank you for your prayers & support. School begins on September 1st. Stay tuned for an update closer to!

  1. Hello Jocelyn! So happy to hear from you with all the good news.

Just wondering if you have heard of MailChimp for doing your emails. It looks like WordPress is putting commercials in your letter. A casino ad . . . a tad different for an IW. 😁 We used MailChimp for a lot of years. It’s free up to a certain number of emails. You might check it out at https://login.mailchimp.com/.

Enjoy your time. Thanks for being there and serving!!

Love, Tim & Brenda Tjosvold 😁
