august 2025.

Well, August was quite the month! Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever started a school year feeling so full and stretched in every direction all at once. Coming back to Kenya for year six of life, work, and ministry has been both exciting and overwhelming. I jumped straight back into so many responsibilities, and new beginnings that there were definitely moments when I felt like I couldn’t quite catch my breath.

But now that September is here, I feel like I’m starting to find my footing again. The routines are slowly settling back into place, whether that’s navigating the lively markets, hearing the monkeys chatter outside, or weaving through the endless Nairobi traffic. These little daily rhythms remind me that yes, I’m home here, too.

One of the sweetest surprises of August has been trying out a new church. I went in not knowing what to expect, but I walked away loving it. The worship and the teaching were so encouraging to me and it just feels like such a life-giving place. And here’s a fun connection: the pastor’s wife is from Rosetown, SK! What are the chances? It was such a neat reminder of how small the world can be and how God weaves connections across continents.

On the work side of things, this year has started with a big shift for me. I officially stepped into my new role as the Elementary Learning Support Team Lead. This means not only continuing to support students and their families directly but also walking alongside teachers, helping them feel equipped to support students with a range of learning needs. One of the biggest joys this August has been welcoming new students into our school community (specifically new students with Down syndrome and autism). It has been so encouraging to see our program expand, to know that we’re creating a place where these children are seen, celebrated, and given opportunities to grow. As busy as the work is, I am often reminded that I am living in my wildest dreams!

Of course, at the heart of all of this are the students. I can’t even put into words how much I love the kids I get to teach and support. They make me laugh, challenge me to think differently, and remind me daily why I’m here. Their energy and resilience inspire me, even on the days when the work feels heavy or I’m stretched thin.

On a personal note, being far from family again is always one of the hardest adjustments. I already miss them so much, especially my nephews. But thank goodness for FaceTime! Weekly calls with them have become such a special gift, whether it’s hearing their sweet voices, watching them show me their toys, or just laughing together across the screen. It doesn’t take away the ache of distance, but it helps more than I can say.

So yes, August was FULL—overflowing with new routines, new responsibilities, new connections, and the mix of joy and challenge that comes with transition. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel overwhelmed at times, but I can also see how God’s faithfulness has been present in every detail. From the laughter of my students, to the encouragement of coworkers, to the small graces of markets and monkeys and FaceTime calls with family. This month has been a reminder that even in the whirlwind, there are gifts everywhere.

A grounding reminder for me has been our school theme this year: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). The phrase “First Things First” is something I’ve been carrying with me into the busyness of this season. It’s a constant encouragement to pause, realign, and keep my eyes fixed on Christ.

As I step further into this new season and the added responsibilities of my role, I’d deeply appreciate your encouragement and prayers for wisdom, strength, and joy in the busy days ahead. Thank you so much for your faithfulness in walking with me year after year. Your support makes it possible for me to be here, and I am so grateful.

Here’s to year six. I’m stepping into it with gratitude, expectation, and trust that God has good things in store.
